After losing their starting small forward Angel McCoughtry, the Atlanta Dream shifted their starting lineup. McCoughtry tore her ligaments in her left knee in last week’s game against the Las Vegas Aces. As a result of losing their lone All-Star, Atlanta injected Brittney Sykes into the starting five at small forward.

Andrea Lazaro had a historic run in the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship, as she became the first FIU tennis player to advance to the quarterfinals of the singles competition. To begin the tournament, the senior star defeated Melissa Lord from Standford in the first round, 6-4, 6-1. Lazaro entered the match ranked No. 13 in the Oracle/ITA National singles standings.

Panthers’ outfielder Jackie Schoff at one point considered giving up her bat and glove, following a gruesome injury she suffered in high school. The junior from Brandenton, FL tore her shoulder labrum in her sophomore year at Lakewood Ranch High School and was forced to sit out for over a year to fully heal from her injury.

With her collegiate basketball career officially over, former Panthers’ forward Kiandre’a Pound will now adjust to her new phase in life, becoming a full-time mother. Pound redshirted the 2014-15 season with a medical hardship waiver due to her pregnancy. In March 2016, the former Panther welcomed her daughter Kynsley.

Snapping a six-game losing streak, the FIU women’s basketball team finished the 2017 year with a season-high, 80-70, win over Vermont on Saturday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. Sophomore guard Alexis Gordon led the team with a career-high 40 points, as she converted nine three-pointers, the most in school history.
